I recently wrote an e-mail to Spirit Yachts asking them if the Spirit 54 would be reliable for circumnavigation. This was their reply.
Dear Mr Bodyke,
Thank you for your e-mail and for your interest in our yachts.
All the different models that we build at Spirit Yachts have been developed for particular clients with particular needs, matching the seakeeping abilities with the intended use.
The Spirit 54 was developed primarily as a fast regatta/cruiser yacht and, whilst very capable of long distances, is not the optimium Spirit for world cruising. The ideal Spirit for this purpose would be the Spirit 56 which was conceived, designed and built from the very beginning for long distance deep ocean cruising. This yacht has a relatively heavier displacement than other Spirits, giving a more relaxed motion at sea whilst retaining exhilarating performance. It also has the capacity to absorb all the equipment so necessary for a successful cruise.
If you would like to let me have a mailing address, I shall be pleased to put some brochure material concerning these yachts in the post to you.
In the meantime, if I can be of any further help or if you would like any more detailed information, please do not hesitate to ask.
With regards, Sean McMillan
Although James Bond and vesper floated from the bahamas to the Mediterranean on the Spirit 54 the ideal yacht for them should have been the Spirit 56. On that note the Spirit 56 is the yacht for me.
